Traditional style. Made from 5mm thick and approximate 12mm wide steel strips except for the largest size which is about 15mm wide. Painted red and stamped with 'N' and 'S' to indicate north and south poles. Supplied with soft iron plated keeper (armature).

Made from heat resistant, air cooled, hollow porcelain tube closely wound with a resistance wire of copper nickel alloy which is previously oxidized to provide perfect insulation. The end supports are made of metal with provision for screw mounting. A bakelite slider carries a phosphor bronze contact which can be moved rapidly and smoothly and can rest anywhere along the winding. The insulation is sand-papered off where the slider makes contact. Resistance in ohms and current carrying capacities are engraved on contact carriage. Three terminals are provided for electrical connections, one at each end of the winding and the third at one end of the slide rod so that the unit can be used either as a rheostat or as a potentiometer.

Available with a variety of resistances and current carrying capacities. Power ratings (watts) can be calculated as Watts = (Current in amperes) 2 x Resistance in ohms

Caution: Rheostat of unprotected design should not be used on electric supplies more than 50 volts.

For qualitative and quantitative study of the electrolytic decomposition of electrolytes such as water, hydrochloric acid etc.

Consists of two vertical 50mL, gas-collecting, graduated glass tubes with stopcocks at top and joined by a bridging tube to a reservoir and fitted with a pair of platinum electrodes at the lower ends of the glass tubes. A lead wire connecting the platinum electrode passes through the glass tube for external connections, so that only the platinum electrode comes in contact with the electrolyte. Packed in a styrofoam case. Mounted on a cast iron stand designed for safe clamping. Requires a 6V battery or low voltage D.C. power supply for operation.

For studying electromagnetic induction, ferromagnetizm and principles of a transformer.

Consists of two coils wound with enamelled copper wire over heavy plastic spools fitting one within the other. The inner primary coil has 1250 turns of heavy wire and the outer, acting as secondary coil with 250 turns of fine wires. Square supports of thick insulating material are used as vertical or horizontal mount. Both coils are equipped with binding posts and a soft iron core for induction studies.
